Escaping a Bad Economy

I was planning to go to the Technique Museum to see some inventions and designs. I stopped at Checkpoint Charlie because of my sister Clyde’s suggestion. It turns out that this museum chronicles many interesting techniques!

This chemist didn’t just escape:: he patented his submarine, and scored chicks!

The above musician saved his wife by storing her in a stereo / amplifier.
This grinning family got through the easy way. Clyde and Christine were in Berlin when the wall came down! It’s a great photo. I’ll find the original or you should… because the looks on the faces of the family… real shot in the arm!

We have done it before, and we must do it again. Kudos to the ingenious Berliners who escaped or helped people escape the Communist East. It’s hard to imagine a worse economy than our present one, but Cold War East Europe was the pits. So much invention and good will came out of the efforts to liberate those left behind. There was the 28 year old chemist who created a mini-submarine to propel him through the Baltic Sea. There were many tricked-out automobiles to conceal passengers. And much tunneling.

The hard hard times in which we find ourselves. We can find a way out. Now is an opportunity to THINK AND BUILD!

The man John P. Ireland was from New England (Mass) and he re-enlisted in the Army after the war. He and a friend helped people escape. His cover was as an eccentric antiques collector. He’d drive through in his Cadillac.

I took the above photo in the Reichstag / Parliament.

I think the above photo is famous.

London Design Museum

I know about recessions. I’ve thought about it, and I will explain it in a post. But I also know about ideas that create action. When someone gets an idea that is strong and that they believe must be realized, action is not interrupted by recessions.

On the top floor of the London Design Museum, finalists/nominees for the Brit Insurance Design Awards 2009 are featured. The first floor features select works from an amazing fashion designer/artist – Hussein Chalayan. His work will be featured in a separate post.

The above Trek bike does not have the usual dirty old chain.

This bench is a sofa. Islands of select cushions.

A wheel chair that stops and turns based on Leaning. Hands are free to do things such as shoot baskets.

Pandora: How Long Can We Sing this Song?

Pandora is a wonderful service. If you haven’t already begun using this nifty Music Genome based personal radio player, you ought to.

Today I point out one glaring problem with the player :: it does not list the running time of the songs it plays. This information could appear within the individual song box which contains the album art, song title, album title and artist. Or it could appear in the Music controller, which is just a Play / Pause toggle button. Since most media players include total time, as well as elapsed AND time remaining, Pandora would be wise to do so. Hec, even to just mimic iTune’s interface.

Another omission is Year of Release. It would be nice to know the year when each song was produced or released. For select songs, it appears in a Detail Page. But for some reason it doesn’t appear for most songs. And it never appears in the song’s box (above). Pandora invites users to “Guide Us.” But, Pandora could do a little more guiding itself.
